The Supreme Administrative Court rules in favor of FoMA's appeal against Helsinki's General Plan 2002

8 November 2006

The Supreme Administrative Court has on 7 November 2006 ruled in favor of the Friends of Malmi Airport Society's appeal against City of Helsinki General Plan 2002. The decision of the Supreme Administrative Court overturns the earlier ruling of the Administrative Court of Helsinki.

The ruling of the Supreme Administrative Court is based on a disqualification error in the General Plan process. With this outcome, the Supreme Administrative Court did not comment on FoMA's other grounds for appeal.

The ruling means that the part of General Plan 2002 related to Malmi Airport - allotting it to residential purposes as soon as the relocation of aviation activities has been worked out - will not attain legality.

The earlier General Plan from 1992, still effective for Malmi Airport, allots the area primarily to traffic.
