Helsingin Sanomat, the leading Finnish newspaper, published on 25 May 2010 the results of a survey of noise, noise abatement and quiet places in the capital. The survey, commissioned by City of Helsinki Environment Centre, was mailed to 3000 randomly selected residents of Helsinki, and a total of 2100 responses were received by mail and via the Internet.
The responses indicated that many residents of Helsinki perceive Malmi Airport as a quiet place. The practically perfect tranquility of the Airport in the evenings, in night time and in the winter is seen as something special and valuable.
