Helsinki International Airshow 2009 drew a record crowd to Malmi Airport

Tens of thousands of people came to Malmi Airport for a "wow" experience. |
Helsinki International Airshow 15-16 August 2009 drew a total of more than 70 000 spectators to Malmi Airport on Saturday and Sunday. The fickle weather on Sunday could not keep the public away, even though some flying displays had to be cancelled due to the wind and the rain. The traffic arrangements with shuttle buses worked well, and no serious traffic jams developed.
At the biggest air show in recent years at Malmi Airport, the versatile flying programme and ground displays offered something for everyone. The flying displays of aerobatic aircraft, jet fighters, museum aircraft, helicopters and gyrocopters as well as the parachuting stunts, the ground display stands of aviation organisations, a funfair and numerous vendors' stalls made the event one to remember. No sour expressions were to be seen on the faces of the spectators on their way home - shining eyes, smiles and children bouncing with excitement were all the more in evidence.
