The statutory autumn meeting of Friends of Malmi Airport Society was held on 25 November at Malmi Airport's Gate1 restaurant, which kindly offered coffee and coffeebread. For starters the new proprietor of the restaurant, Ms. Jaana Laukkonen, introduced herself to the attendees.
The events of the year 2013 and the activities of the Society were recapitulated, and the economic plan and activities for the next year were presented and approved.
A new Board for the next season was also elected at the meeting. Matti Korjula, Riitta Luhtala ja Jessi Paju asked to retire from the Board. The new Board was elected by secret ballot. Milla Kuosmanen, Päivi Hokkanen and Klaus Wesa were elected as new members of the Board for the next two years, and Sami Saikkonen for one year. Of the present members of the Board, Tero Auranen, Raine Haikarainen, Eija Korjula, Kauko Koskinen, Rita Landén, Erkki Mikola, Hilkka Saarinen and Seppo Sipilä were re-elected for the next two years. Dr. Raine Haikarainen wished to retire from the position of Chairman at the end of 2013. Mr. Timo Hyvönen was elected as the new Chairman.
Private citizen's membership fee to increase
A decision was made to increase the Society's membership fee for private citizens by 5 euro. The fee had been kept constant since 2002. Thus, the membership fee for private citizens will be 15 euro in 2014.
FoMA's Certificate of Honor awarded to the authors of Malmi regional vision 2050
At the meeting, the Society announced the receivers of FoMA's Certificate of Honor Nos. 10 and 11. They are Nono Alakari and Jarkko Talonpoika, who have actively participated in voluntary work to promote the 75th jubilee of Malmi Airport and been closely involved in authoring a vision of the future of Malmi region, "Malmi - Pearl of Helsinki", as members of an open citizens' group.
The Friends of Malmi Airport Society (FoMA) is a non-profit citizens' association founded on 23 March 2002 to support and develop the operational preconditions of the historic Airport. The Society has about 900 members. Its petition to save Malmi Airport has at the moment been signed by more than 57.000 people (www.pelastamalmi.org).
