More than 20.000 signatures in favor of preserving Malmi Airport
9 August 2004
Presently more than 20.000 people have signed the Petition to preserve Helsinki-Malmi Airport in its aviation use. In addition, there are close to 700 signatures in the International Petition. Both petitions are maintained by the Friends of Malmi Airport Society. All signatures can be read on the Society's home page.
This summer, Malmi Airport has been a popular place for visiting. In addition to aviation enthusiasts, a great number of families with children have been observed. People have been most interested in visiting aircraft, especially the Zeppelin airship "Yokoso! Japan". In addition, public events organized at the Airport have drawn large numbers of spectators.
The Friends of Malmi Airport Society was founded in March 2002. It currently has about 800 members. The purpose of the Society is to ensure the preservation of the airfield at its present location and to develop, promote and support the prerequisites of its operation.
